IED signs partnership with CESAP Portuguese fashion academy
IED, an international network of education in the creative field, and CESAP, an appreciated Portuguese academic institution, have signed an agreement to start developing joint undergraduate and postgraduate courses that will be held at Escola Superior Artìstica do Porto (owned by CESAP) in the Fashion and Design areas.
The two entities share the same vision in spreading artistic and design culture, as well as being both owned by nonprofit entities. The European Institute of Design today is owned by the Francesco Morelli Foundation and since 2022 has become a Benefit Corporation. It aims to generate shared value for the community and the environment and to operate in a responsible, sustainable and transparent way towards people, communities, and territories.
ESAP, on the other hand, is owned by CESAP (Cooperativa de Ensino Superior Artistico do Porto), a nonprofit public benefit institution with a pedagogical mission in the service of Art.
Both institutions operate with the intention of serving as a research observatory and a link between academia and the labor market. Together, they want to explore how to translate their educational systems and converge methodologies and know-how into courses relevant to the needs of today’s creative industry.
“We are excited to start this new adventure with CESAP, which aims to enrich with stimuli and opportunities the educational landscape in design and fashion in Portugal, an extremely vital market towards which we have already begun to approach with satisfaction,” said Riccardo Balbo, chief academic officer, IED Group.
“In addition to the educational value of the courses we are planning, we are convinced that the collaboration will promote new exchanges and student flows between Portugal and the countries where IED is present–Italy, Spain and Brazil–through its network of schools, also leading to new synergies on the institutional and corporate levels,” Balbo continued.
IED-Moda Lisboa partenrship
IED has already been a partner of Moda Lisboa, Lisbon’s Fashion Week, in the last four editions, bringing an active contribution in promoting local talent through the Sangue Novo contest. The winners of the competition for young fashion designers were awarded in spring 2023 and 2024 with two master scholarships at IED’s Florence and Milan offices.
“CESAP, as a founding institution, and ESAP, prestigious colleges in the field of art education in Portugal, have the highest expectations of this partnership with IED, with which we hope to implement various terms projects with a significant impact on the higher education landscape in Portugal, in the field of Design and Fashion, in its multiple valences and manifestations,” commented Manuel F. Costa e Silva, president, CESAP.
Programs offered in partnership and faculty will be presented starting in fall.
