BAGUIO CITY — The rich culture, tradition, passion for fashion, and artistry of the Cordilleran designers were highlighted during the Inabel Resurgence V: Seasons of the Highlands on November 15 at a garden hotel and resort in Irisan, Baguio City. Now in its fifth year, the fashion show once again celebrated the enduring heritage of Cordilleran weaving through contemporary design and innovative craftsmanship.

The event opened with a Designer Talk where veteran and emerging Cordilleran talents shared the stories behind their creative journeys of working with inabel and other indigenous textiles, as well as how their cultural roots continue to shape and motivate their artistry. The discussion also emphasized the designers’ personal narratives of perseverance, identity, and the deep responsibility that comes with preserving traditional weaving practices.

One of the most notable voices during the talk was from Febylyn Finnek of Finnek Handicrafts, a 19-year-old designer and the youngest in the lineup. She spoke proudly about her experience navigating the pressures of working alongside more seasoned designers. According to Finnek, the challenge fuels her passion for fashion designing as she draws inspiration from the expertise and dedication of her fellow creatives.

Following the Designer Talk, the runway opened to a vibrant showcase of designs by several Cordilleran artists, including Marissa Bomogao of MB Collections, Mylen Pedro of Textile by Myle, Miriam Dugyon of Mira Kira, Clarissa Crisologo of Arhaliah’s Modern Muse, Muquiat Padong of Kouturdillera, and others. Each collection drew from different seasons and cycles of life in the Cordilleras such as the rains, the summer heat, planting and harvest time, the blooming season, hunting era, and wedding celebration. These themes were reflected not only in the fabric and patterns but also in the overall presentation, creating a visual storytelling experience that connected the spectators to the rhythms of highland living.

The program concluded with a message of gratitude from organizer and designer Avelyn Calag, who expressed her appreciation for the designers, sponsors, and all the behind-the-scenes people who worked tirelessly to make the event happen. Calag also announced the theme for next year’s fashion show titled Inabel Resurgence VI: Rivers of Civilizations, wishing everyone to participate once again in the coming year.

As Inabel Resurgence marks its fifth year, it stood as a testament to the richness of Cordilleran culture and the growing movement to preserve and elevate indigenous weaving. The event highlighted that tradition and innovation can coexist, producing creations that honors the cultural heritage while inspiring future generations of artists and designers.
