Crafting Fashion Trends

We’re the team behind Up—but under the hood, we’re Ferocia: a passionate tech company driven by innovation and financial empowerment. In 2011, we cut our teeth crafting the first digital platform for Bendigo Bank. Building on that foundation, we later launched Up in 2018—a reimagined banking experience designed to bring financial freedom to a generation.

By 2021, we officially became part of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Group, continuing our work on Up and building innovative financial software for everyone. Sitting firmly in the sweet spot of a small company rhythm with the impact of a major player, we stay dedicated to empowering those who need it most.

As proud members of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Group, we’re committed to being carbon neutral, community-focused, and holding ourselves to the highest standards. We love people who are willing to give it a crack—and even if you’re unsure we’re the right match on paper, throw your hat in the ring anyway. You might just surprise yourself.

THE ROLE

  • This is a mid-senior level role: you must have a minimum of 5-6 years experience in this arena to be considered and ideally leaning more towards the senior end of the scale.
  • Sydney-Based PR Lead for Up: Act as our primary representative in Sydney, operating autonomously to build high-impact relationships with national media, tech journalists, and creators. Alongside our Senior Growth Marketer, you’ll work out of The Commons (Surry Hills), in the heart of our key national media contacts and culture partnerships.
  • Strategic Connector: Bridge the gap between our Melbourne HQ and the national press landscape, ensuring our brand narrative is consistent but locally amplified. You’ll also need to be able to seamlessly switch modes between business and consumer press.
  • Hybrid PR Visionary: Transition our earned media strategy from traditional press release cycles to a modern, always-on engine that prioritises storytelling and carves out new opportunities based on emerging trends in the media landscape.
  • Independent Operator: Manage your own workflows and stakeholder communications, providing the Head of Growth with clear, data-backed visibility on performance.
  • Growth Accelerator: View PR not just as reputation management, but as a critical driver for user acquisition and brand trust.
  • AI-Forward Thinker: Pioneer the use of emerging technologies to streamline media monitoring, sentiment analysis, and content distribution.
  • Media Relations: Own the end-to-end relationship with tier-one business, tech, and finance media to secure consistent, high-quality coverage, and continue to deepen these relationships in quieter, non-campaign periods.
  • Earned Strategy: Design and execute creative campaigns that earn attention across social platforms, newsletters, and traditional news cycles.
  • Data-Driven Reporting: Move beyond “vanity metrics” to track how PR efforts impact brand awareness, app installs, and customer sentiment.
  • Crisis & Corporate Comms: Protect the Up brand by managing proactive and reactive communications around product launches or industry shifts. As part of this, you’ll need to be able to work in lockstep with the Ferocia/Up leadership team, and the broader Bendigo Bank PR team too.
  • Cross-Functional Sync: Maintain a tight feedback loop with the Melbourne product, growth, and brand teams to turn technical updates into compelling stories.

WHAT SKILLS YOU BRING

  • Mixed Background: A proven track record with experience in both fast-paced agency environments and in-house (client-side) roles. Ideally 5+ years experience.
  • Financial Literacy: The ability to navigate the complexities of the banking sector while translating them into simple, human-centric narratives that also appeal to consumer media.
  • Modern Media Intuition: Deep understanding of the shifting landscape, from Substack and podcasts to TikTok and traditional newsrooms.
  • Technical Savvy: Proficiency in using data platforms and AI-assisted tools to optimise outreach and measure real-world impact.
  • Executive Communication: Exceptional written and verbal skills, with the ability to “over-communicate” effectively across state lines.
  • Self-Starter Mindset: The discipline to thrive in a remote-office setting, staying motivated and connected without needing day-to-day oversight.
