Find Your Fashion Career Path at V&A’s Creative Careers Fair This Week

This week, we’re sharing more details about Upstart at V&A South Kensington: Careers in Fashion event tomorrow.

At BRICKS, we’re strong believers that “you can’t be what you can’t see.” This means that many young creatives have skills that could be employable for a wide variety of roles in the industry, but without proper education on the roles that they could be applying to, many feel unsure where their place in the industry is.

BRICKS founder Tori West had no idea of the multi-faceted role available to her as a magazine editor until she found herself working in the industry, strapped behind a desk producing near-identical deliverables day-in, day-out. Tori recognised that as someone neurodiverse, she is more productive and more engaged with her work when the role is varied, and when she can be collaborating with others, and this helped her realise that magazine editing was the right career path for her.

So if you’re curious about what career opportunities could be available to you in fashion, or you’re aimlessly scrolling job listings (or our Opportunities Board) and struggling to know whether creative director, digital designer, design manager, art director or “creative” is the right role for you, we think this weekend’s offerings at V&A South Kensington will be ideal for you.

Tomorrow, Saturday 16th November, the V&A South Kensington is hosting a free festival of talks, workshops and networking opportunities (Opens in a new window) to explore new career pathways, learn new skills and grow your network as part of its Upstart Creative Careers Festival (Opens in a new window).

Here’s 5 reasons why attending the V&A South Kensington’s Upstart at V&A South Kensington: Careers in Fashion might help you find your fashion career path:

Talks

Hear from a range of designers and creatives including menswear designer Nicholas Daley (Opens in a new window), Diet Paratha (Opens in a new window) founder Anita Chhiba (Opens in a new window), and fashion & textiles network UKFT (Opens in a new window), exploring everything from how to land a job in fashion, to roles in Designing, Making, and Marketing.

Workshops

There are a number of free workshops to attend: you can knit and chat with Black Girl Knit Club (Opens in a new window), re-invent vintage pieces with Akiya Studios (Opens in a new window), and go behind the scenes to discover how textile conservators work to preserve fashion pieces in the museum.

Portfolio reviews

When it comes to working in the creative industry, ensuring your portfolio reflects your creative vision is key. Explore and Expand your Portfolios with Adobe experts.

Film Screenings

There will be film screenings taking place throughout the day, including Myths and Muses: Queering the V&A and How to Dress Yourself Digitally: Designers on Sustainability.

Advice & Networking

The museum has created an open space for attendees to network with creative makers and reflect together. Whether you’re an aspiring creative or established in your practice, meeting new people and learning from their experiences can support everyone’s creative development and creates new opportunities for collaboration.

With even more creative showcase demonstrations and display, plus free food served by En Root, head down to the V&A this Saturday 16th November to discover more, or head to the website (Opens in a new window) for more details.
